Movie Review: Hacksaw Ridge

One of our best friends, Alexandra "Lexi" Thern, wrote a movie review for us on a very compelling movie, Hacksaw Ridge. She absolutely loves this movie so we just had to have her write a review on it! We hope you enjoy this simple, spoiler-free review!

Hacksaw Ridge is a true story based off the extraordinary tale of WWII army medic Desmond T. Doss (played by Andrew Garfield). With romance, religion, and courage beyond belief, this inspiring tale will leave you awed. Andrew Garfield executes his role perfectly, with acting challenges of everything from genuine laughs to desperation (which is just hard to get right for some actors, I’ve seen faces that look down right constipated) with an ease that will make you forget to stuff more popcorn in your mouth (or at least close to it). But most importantly, this jaw dropping (and surprisingly funny) tale reminds you that, when God’s on your side, you have a strength that will outlast and endure long after everyone else has given up. With great ratings on sites like Rotten Tomato and IMDB it’s no surprise you’ll find yourself with only one word left in your vocabulary - “wow”. The perfect movie for spiritual war buffs (that's me!); walk with a young man as he pushes through an experience that tests the foundation of how he lives while giving everything to save perfect strangers (literally and spiritually). So discover how Desmond Doss is the only person in american history to have gotten a medal of honor without firing a single gun and see how one man's determination and beliefs changed the outcome of a brutal war and, more importantly, instilled hope in those who had forgotten the Word. WARNING: Do not watch if you become physically ill, mentally impaired, or are affected by the sight of blood, guts, killing, stabbing, shooting, screaming, or any form of what war actually looks like!

Alexandra (Lexi) Thern

Hi, I'm Lexi! I'm a 15 year old country girl who's current biggest worries consist of not dying in cross country practice, maintaining good grades at my small middle-of-nowhere high school and... Nope that's about it. With God as the center of my universe, I strive to show His will in every step that I take, even if it means NOT high-fiving that person... In the face (clearly I still need some practice). But however much I joke, I know what people can go through: from deployments and separations to hard work and blessings, and firmly believe that even the smallest actions can make the biggest difference. Therefore I strive to always take the time to be there for people when they need it. I truly hope that this blog will change the way you look at life and show you that every day is a gift that you should make the most of :D
