About three weeks ago, we were able to interview our McKinney campus worship leader, Colin Edge. He and his wife, Paige, have written a number of songs, and their most recent album is Break Heaven Open, which you can find on iTunes or Google Play Music. We meet up with Colin every now and then so we can show him the songs we are working on. (You may or may not know about it, but we have a band! You'll be hearing about it soon!) We finally decided to interview Colin, so enjoy!

How long have you been a musician?

I started when I was 8, so now I have a musician for 19 years.

Why did you become a musician?

I learned really early that I felt good playing music. I liked it. My dad played guitar, and I thought it was really cool.

What inspires you to write songs?

It's more like what doesn't! It really depends on my mood, which is what they would call catharsis (the purging of the emotions or relieving of emotional tensions, especially through certain kinds of art, as tragedy or music). I feel better when I write songs.

How many songs have you written?

It's hard to keep count. Over my whole life, it's anywhere from 50 as the low to 100 as the high. I think this year is my best year because I'm trying to write and complete a whole cong every week.

How do you prepare to lead worship?

Lots of coffee, rehearsals, checking PCO (Planning Center Online) [our church's planning website], listening through songs, praying. I can' take it too seriously mentally; you just can't overthink it. You just kinda go on auto-pilot after a while. You just have to trust that God will take care of it.

How has God moved your heart through worship?

My heart is moved often when a group of people reaches a level on unity and is in sync.

Are there other dreams that God has placed on you heart to

minister to people?

There isn't much because everything is about music for me. I do want to try maybe one-on-one in group settings or discipling, or maybe even speaking. It's really just a blank canvas.

What artist or pastor has had the greatest impact on you?

Pastor Mike Hayes [Covenant Church's founding pastor] and Bethel Music. My favorite artist though is the Beatles.

What's the biggest "God moment" you've ever experienced?

The Return [Covenant Church's men's event]. I was praying in some tall grass and I just felt God. Also a lot of times through worship.

How did being homeschooled when you were younger help you get where you are right now?

I went to public school when I was in high school, but when I was homeschooled, I was able to anchor my faith. I was still involved in church and in co-ops.

Personally or professionally, when has God shown up in a powerful

way?

Last Sunday [July 30, at the time when we did the interview] was just an amazing time of worship. 73 people were baptized. It's powerful when God moves.

What are some ways you could share on making a difference?

Differences can be big and small. You may not know what small action you take that could end up making a big difference.

Thank you so much for reading this interview!
