Recently, God has been forcing me to really consider my walk with him. I knew had to change, but it wasn't my top priority. At National Convention, God had me pray with complete strangers. I don't know about you, but that could be slightly nerve racking. So with the help of a friend and God. I did. After my first encounter, it gave me the boldness to reach out to others.
Listening to God's voice can be hard at times. Personally, I've had some difficulty, but I feel like I've finally begun to hear God's voice. Let me share some tips that I've found helped me. All of these have occurred to me in different scenarios. I will give my personal example. Not all of these could work for you, because we are all different, but God will speak to you in your own way.
Step 1: God can speak to you directly. During your own personal time, God may whisper to you the answer you need. For instance, I was worshipping, and I felt a knowing inside of me that told me to pray for the people around me. That "knowing" can be different for all of us instead it could be a whisper inside you. If you don't know if it's God, make sure those words line up with God's Word.
Step 2: God can also speak to you through the Bible. This one is pretty straight forward. When you read certain things, the answer to a question may become very clear.
Step 3: God speaks to us through other people. For instance, listening to a sermon and gleaning from it is God's way of speaking to us through them. It's sometimes very clear especially if it was in your spirit. Another way would be through a conversation. You may be talking about something completely different, and then a word or two may bring an abundant flow of wisdom and answers.
Step 4: God speaks to us through situations. Usually when I'm in a situation, God breathes into it and helps me make good decisions, but the key is to always pay attention.
Step 5: God speaks to us through dreams/visions. "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams." Acts 2:17. This one is not spoken about a lot but it comes as a wake up call to us. You might go to bed with a situation, but wake up with a solution.
God always wants to talk to us, so no matter what happens always be ready for that still small voice.
