So many times while reading the greater portion of Proverbs 31, we can see the greatness portrayed by a “wife of noble character,” “a good wife,” “a worthy woman,” “the competent wife,” “the perfect wife,” “the woman who fears the Lord,” “the capable wife,” “the honorable woman,” “an excellent woman,” or “a virtuous woman,” as many different translations say. However, there is more meaning to this proverb than just what lies at the surface. Through the verses I have picked out, we can see that there are parts of the character of such a woman that can be applied to anyone!

16- She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden. First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.

We have to use wisdom with our money.

17- She senses the worth of her work,

Our work is not worthless; it is for a reason, yet we have to be able to understand it.

18- [She] is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.

Through the understanding of our work’s worth, we have to be willing to work hard and not end work hastily.

19- She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.

When we do our work, we have to do it to the best of our abilities. We have to sharpen our skills as time goes on.

20- She’s quick to assist anyone in need, reaches out to help the poor.

We should be kind to the poor and the needy.

25- she always faces tomorrow with a smile.

No matter what happens, we should always be ready for a new day, and whatever will happen that day, we should always be smiling, so we can show the love of God in our hearts.

26- When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.

We should be careful with what we say, and say it only when it is important. When we say something, it should always be kind and out of best wishes for others.

30- Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.

Good looks can only last for a little while. After time passes and beauty fades, what should really show is the character and beauty of our hearts.
