Insecurities. I'm sure we all have them. I'm sure there's something we all face that makes us uncomfortable or embarrassed around other people. Well, guess what? The Bible talks about insecurities, so we have a trustworthy source to look to. Let's take a look.
1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Here, Samuel is looking for the next king. In this chapter, he goes to the house of Jesse, David's father, and examines each and every one of David's older, stronger, and more handsome brothers. But what does the Lord say? "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." Let's look at this concept further.
God is saying that we shouldn't let our insecurities rule over our dreams and the abilities we have. But where do insecurities come from? They are usually rooted in false identity. A false identity is a way we look at ourselves or show ourselves to other people that isn't the true us. When you can't see the best God sees in you, Satan is trying to trick you. Do you know why the enemy is doing this? Because he wants to twist the reality of your life. He wants what the truth is to be made false or fake.
Another place insecurities are rooted is sin. Maybe you did something you know you shouldn't have done, and because of that, you're afraid. You shouldn't have to be afraid as long as you confess what you did wrong and know that God is a loving and merciful God who cares about you.
We all have a place that we worship God to the fullest. Maybe you reach that place when you put aside all distractions, or when you are in a peaceful moment. But every single person has to worship and love God all by themselves. You can't have your friends help you worship God. When you reach that place of full worship, though, we can get pulled away. When we allow our dreams and aspirations pull us away from the place where we can worship, we can fall back into our insecurity. Don't get so caught up in the battle that you can't get back to that place. Do you know why? Because the battle is not yours; it is God's. If we don't continually seek God, you're going to fall back into insecurity.
We cover up our sin with insecurity, but God will cover up our sin with grace. Many times in life, when told to carry our cross, we often try to hide away our Christianity. But the cross is our security. We will always be insecure when we put our faith in ourselves, but there is strength and stability in the cross of Jesus Christ. There is no condemnation for those that are in Christ. Do you know why? Jesus doesn't listen to our accusers; Jesus see us through GRACE.
